SYSTIR, meaning “sister” in Icelandic, has emerged from the legendary ANÚNA to forge a distinctive and eclectic musical identity focused on the female voice. Today Anúna is the parent ensemble of the ANÚNA COLLECTIVE which includes the ensembles Systir and M’ANAM.

Systir focuses specifically on the female voice and features six or more performers on stage. The ensemble combines contemporary vocal performance with repertoire ranging from medieval music to newly composed works and contemporary song, creating an immersive and distinctive sound world.

Systir’s performances include Michael McGlynn's original compositions and arrangements alongside works by the 11th century abbess Hildegard of Bingen and contemporary artists such as Janelle Monáe and Kate Bush. Central to the ensemble's work is the story behind each song, whether personal, historical or imagined, and the communication of human emotions and experiences directly to an audience.

Systir have toured Italy, China, Japan, Germany, Ireland, Finland and Iceland in the last two years, with performances in England, Germany, Finland, Estonia and Latvia scheduled in 2026. The group is currently completing its debut album for release in 2026. Michael McGlynn serves as Systir's artistic director and principal composer, guiding its creative vision and creating much of the original repertoire performed by the ensemble.
